If you’ve always wanted to sail the open sea or are an expert and long to discover the incredible islands of Venezuela, this is the trip for you.
Departing from Margerita Island and heading toward Los Roques, you will cross a stretch of sea that centuries ago was sailed both by the most ruthless pirates and European colonists traveling to Colombia, Panama and the Netherlands Antilles.
Immersed in the blue Caribbean sea, you will visit the marvelous islands of Venezuela including Margerita, Coche and Tortuga, arriving last at the heavenly archipelago of Los Roques.
Below is the itinerary that Sailingroques normally proposes for those who, like you, want a taste of the real sea.
First day: travel to Venezuela. Afternoon arrival in Caracas. Airport assistance and transportation to the national airport for a direct flight to Margerita Island. Duration: 1 hour. Arrive in Porlamar. Airport assistance and transportation by boat. Cabin assignment. Overnight stay.
Second day: Margerita - Coche. During the morning you will visit several of the most beautiful beaches on Margerita Island and discover the most hidden roadsteads. Our skipper will lead you on an exploration of the Playa la Restinga, the largest beach on the island, a single stretch of sand that extends for over 20 km from La Guardia to Playa el Saco. In the afternoon you will depart for Coche. Duration of the crossing: 2 hours. You will arrive in Coche in the late evening. Full board on the boat.
Third day: Coche - Tortuga. At first light, we will sail in the direction of Tortuga Island. Duration: 6 hours. During the passage you can observe schools of dolphins and pass the time drop fishing under the expert guidance of our skipper. After our arrival in Tortuga, you can spend the remainder of the afternoon hours exploring this amazing island. Tortuga Island covers 155 km and consists of 3 small, completely uninhabited islands, visited only during the fishing season (from September to April) by fishermen who, over the centuries, have built simple lodges there to offer shelter from the outdoors. This island boasts gorgeous virgin beaches of white sand where you can spend an entire day in contact with nature and the sea. The most well-known beaches are Punta Delgada, Punta Oriental, La Piscina, Carenero and Punta Herradura. Full board on the boat.
Fourth day: Tortuga. The entire day will be spent exploring the island and its crystal clear waters. The guidance and stories of our skipper, will allow you to relive the exploits of the notorious pirate, Morgan, who, during the XVII century, often used this island to prepare for his incursions on the Venezuelan coast. You can go snorkeling or simply relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of this land. Full board on the boat.
Fifth day: Tortuga - Los Roques. In the morning, we will sail to the Los Roques archipelago, ready to discover a true earthly paradise where the colors and depth of the light offer magical moments. Duration of the trip: 6 hours. You will arrive at the Cayo de Aqua archipelago where, if you’re lucky, you can sail alongside dolphins or catch glimpses of large whale sharks. Once we reach the island, you can spend the remainder of the day at the seaside or, under the guidance of our skipper, try your hand at fly-fishing in search of the famous bonefish. Full board on the boat.
Sixth day: Cayo Agua – Carenero – Noronqui. Morning departure for Carenero, which, together with Lanqui and Felipe Island, forms a calm water lagoon that is protected by mangroves and perfect for snorkeling. In the afternoon, we will reach Noronqui, which is comprised of three oxbow islands and offers bays with secluded beaches and a calm central lagoon. Here you can snorkel and, with a bit of luck, swim with the turtles that come here to lay their eggs. Full board on the boat.
Seventh day: Noronqui - Crasqui - Gran Roque. Morning departure for Crasqui, which is the perfect island for snorkeling or enjoying lunch at its simple and charming restaurant. Departure for Gran Roque after lunch. In the afternoon you can visit the island and spend some time shopping and then finish the day by catching the sunset from the antique Dutch lighthouse overlooking the sole inhabited island in the archipelago. Eighth day: disembark and travel to Caracas. After breakfast you will be taken to the airport. Flight to Caracas. Board flight to your airport of departure.
