Fishing lovers tour
Los Roques is not only a paradise for those who love the sun and relaxation, but is also an ideal location for sea fishing. In fact, thanks to the richness of its waters, you can practice fly, spin and drag fishing all year round. Los Roques in particular has been deemed by professionals to be the second best place worldwide for bonefishing (the so-called ghost of the flats), after the extremely remote Christmas Island in the Pacific Ocean. It is not rare to find bonefish weighing over 6 kilos and they glide calmly near the beaches, between the legs of tourists, in constant search of food. In addition to the feared bonefish, there are many other varieties including the tarpon, barracuda, Carengidae (jack), yellowtail, snapper, cero mackerel, grouper and the strong wahoo.
A vacation on board the sailboat will offer you the opportunity of experimenting with every fishing style, testing your skills during many free hours all day long, from the first rays of the sunrise to the last hours of sunset, when it is hard to miss the numerous different kinds swimming along the shores of these magical islands. Additionally, thanks to our skipper, who is a true expert on the bonefish, you can discover the ancient secrets of the fishermen of these astounding Venezuelan islands.
Sailingroques offers a special “fishing lovers” tour so as to guarantee fans of the sport an entire vacation devoted to fishing. This route was designed specifically for guests who want to spend a week in touch with the sea and its inhabitants. Below is an example of the itinerary that we normally suggest for first-time visitors, as it offers guests the possibility of testing their skills in bonefishing and more.
First day: travel to Venezuela. Morning departure and evening arrival in Caracas. Assistance upon arrival and travel to a 5 star hotel near the airport. Overnight stay
Second day: cruise begins. Gran Roque – Sarqui.Morning flight Caracas-Los Roques. Duration: 45 minutes. Arrival in Gran Roque, assistance and transportation via boat. Cabin assignment. Departure for Sarqui. Arrival after about two hours of sailing. Here you can begin to test out your bonefishing skills under the attentive guidance of the skipper who, for those who are interested, can teach you several tricks of the indigenous fishermen. Full board on the boat.
Third day: Sarqui - Cayo de Aqua.Morning departure for Cayo de Aqua, whose name originates from its fresh water springs. In fact, the name refers to the underwater basin of rainwater that for centuries has constituted the principle water source for the indigenous community. In Cayo de Aqua, the most beautiful of all the islands of the archipelago, you can spend the morning fishing barracuda (drag fishing while en route…) and yellowtail and the afternoon bottom fishing for the garishly colored yet exquisitely flavored grouper. Full board on the boat.
Fourth day: Cayo de Aqua – Cayo Sal.The whole day will be spent drop fishing. You will follow the entire eastern reef in search of extra large barracudas and giant wahoo. Lucky guests may also spot a few of the dolphins and sharks that usually swim in the turbulent waters near the Boca de Sebastopol. Full board on the boat.
Fifth day: Cayo Sal – Dos Mosquises – Carenero.En route, you can continue to practice your drop fishing. Once you arrive in Carenero, which, together with Lanqui and Felipe Island, forms a lagoon of calm water protected by mangroves, you can test your fly-fishing skills on barracuda and bonefish. Full board on the boat.
Sixth Day: Carenero - Rabusqui - Noronqui. Morning departure for Rabusqui. You will be taken to visit the pile-dwelling of the pancake flats, erected for good fortune almost two centuries ago by indigenous fishermen to offer an area of shade in the middle of the archipelago. The structure was designed as a roadman’s house, open to whoever found themselves in that zone during the hottest hours of the day or after sunset. Here you can again devote yourself to fly-fishing; in the sea surrounding this area it is not rare to see bonefish hunting with their tails completely out of the water. In the evening we’ll leave for Noronqui, and you’ll also have the opportunity of taking a lesson in deep-sea night fishing. Full board on the boat.
Seventh day: Noronqui - Madrizqui.Departure for Madrizqui Island, which is about an hour and half away. During the morning you can once again try your hand at fishing the fearsome bonefish and spend a large portion of your day with them. Towards evening, the skipper will take you to an area close to the tongue of land that unites Madrizqui Island with Cayo Pirata (where there is a sudden drop from the shallows to the open sea), where you can perfect your mackerel fishing. Full board on the boat.
Eighth Day: disembark and travel to Caracas. After breakfast, travel to the airport. Flight to Caracas. Board flight to your departure airport.
This is only an example of a possible tour and you are free to modify it in loco consulting with the skipper and keeping in mind weather-sea conditions.
